Tucked in front of the former St Catherine’s Church lies a historic graveyard, where generations of local residents were laid to rest—some as early as 1837, with burials continuing into the 1980s. Though the burial rights remain with the Church in Wales, the freehold of the graveyard now transfers with the church, carrying with it a solemn responsibility to maintain and protect this consecrated ground.
Today, the graveyard tells a quiet and sombre story—not only of those who lived and died in this community, but also of neglect. Once a place of remembrance, the site is now overgrown, its gravestones hidden beneath decades of ivy, its pathways lost to time.
This is not how we honour the dead.
As part of our restoration and repurposing vision, we recognise the graveyard as sacred space. We will bring energy, care, and attention to its renewal—uncovering stones, researching the lives behind the names, and cultivating a place of dignity, reflection, and respect. Where possible, we will work in collaboration with families, local historians, and the Church of Wales to ensure this space is sensitively restored and maintained.
Our ambition is to make the graveyard not just a relic of the past, but an integral part of the future—a peaceful, beautiful place where heritage is visible, memory is honoured, and the community can reflect.
Because every life laid to rest here deserves to be seen.
